I totally agree with your points. American society is built on western european cultural values and is incredibly normative and in many ways unaccepting of foreign cultural characteristics. But we have it really good in the grand scheme of things. On the global scale, America is an absolute unicorn party of acceptance and openness.

Have you been to Asia?

There, there is no conversation about the normalization and acceptance of other cultures because people who aren’t racially asian generally aren’t even seen as residents of those countries, much less accepted with standout cultural quirks. They are seen as visitors.

So while I do agree with you fully, I think a little perspective is helpful. The fact that we are even having this discussion means that we as americans are at the forefront of liberalization and acceptance.
