Thanks for the response. I’m not sure I get what you mean when you say that the rest of the world powers would “exploit us and treat us like shit”. What evidence do you have to back that up? We are not talking about a state of war between the major world powers but a hopefully peaceful shifting of world influence over many many years. I think that your reaction is catastrophising the situation.

Thank you for sharing your experience with your girlfriend. It is an interesting perspective to hear. I would argue though that the United States is also incredibly nationalistic and, despite our best efforts, we have not been able to subjugate 90% of the world. Most nations have been able to live peacefully alongside the US for hundreds of years. A complicated network of allegiances and organizations has allowed most first world countries to be very safe despite many countries jockeying for power.

Again, I think that your response is well informed but also a dramatization of how a power shift from the US to other nations would actually occur.

In fact, in many ways I believe that it is already happening in ways that you may not feel yet :)
